The focus of the IPE is the support and education of its members. The National Directors hold monthly conference calls to discuss topic of importance to the profession. Topics discussed can relate to specific jurisdictions, regulatory concerns, membership issues, etc. This month’s highlights of the discussion are:
  1. Report on the results from the IPE Member Survey
  2. IPECC engagement by IPE
  3. Merry Christmas

Report on the results from the IPE Member Survey

The report regarding the results of the member survey conducted late October of this year was delivered to the National Directors for discussion. The report highlighted the current challenges facing the IPE. The main point were regarding the diversity in interests that occupy our time, energy and the limited resources. It also touches on the IPE “brand” and where this needs to become more focused.

The report was based on the input of approximately 10% of the members who were sent the survey as well as comparisons between similar organizations. A letter has been sent out to all of the IPE members who took their time to provide their insight regarding the only national organization that represents the profession of Power Engineers in Canada.

A final report will be delivered in January to the National Directors that will provide a breakdown of specific tasks. These tasks will likely deal with building membership and they may be done either in combination of as separate ventures depending on the financial cost of the tasks. If you have questions regarding the reports, please contact your Area Director.

IPECC engagement by IPE

The IPE is committed to the quality of education that each Power Engineer. Part of this commitment is through engagement with the Inter-Provincial Power Engineer Curriculum Committee (IPECC). The IPE recognizes that there needs to be a broad representation from industry at IPECC. Industry’s perspective on what a Power Engineer should know is key to keeping our unique knowledge current. The IPE, through it’s membership, may be able to leverage industry to increase their participation. The next IPECC conference will be in Montreal in June 18-24, 2017.

The National Directors and Executive are working for the benefit of all Power Engineers across Canada. This communication is only one means of keeping our members informed. If you have any comments in general you would like to share, please contact your Area Director or the National Office at ipenat@nipe.ca.

Sincerely,
