Power engineering is a profession that dates back to even before the turn of the century. Although it was this period that the profession got its foundation. Engineers employed in the safe operation of steam powered machines became law, and it was established in what became known with some differences as the Steam Boilers Ordinance in Alberta (1897),  and Stationary Boiler Inspection Act in British Columbia (1889).
