Pressure Vessel and Power Engineering Regulations

HomeCanadian Safety RegulatorsPressure Vessel and Power Engineering Regulations

Each Province and Territory has Acts, Regulations, or Standards that govern the installation, maintenance, alteration, and operation of boilers, pressure vessels, and refrigeration systems. It is important for power engineers to familiarize themselves with the corresponding Acts and Standards that apply to the jurisdiction in which they hold their license. Some jurisdictions provide documents that combine both pressure vessel regulations and laws covering power engineering practice, while others separate these into two distinct acts or regulations. These laws are enacted and amended by the jurisdiction’s technical regulator to enhance safety.

The Acts, with varying differences between the regulators, apply to everyone in the field. In addition to power engineers, all licensed contractors are required to stay up to date with changes in their jurisdiction’s laws and regulations.
