Operations and Maintenance Coordinator (Chief Engineer) – East Hants Sportsplex

Due to an upcoming retirement, we are hiring an Operations and Maintenance Coordinator (Chief  Engineer) at the East Hants Sportsplex. 

The Operations and Maintenance Coordinator oversees the maintenance activities of the facility and ice  plant, as per the Technical Safety Act and Power Engineer Regulations of Nova Scotia. This includes  oversight of building systems, preventative maintenance software, building automation, ice  plant/refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, security, and fire suppression. This role supervises a team of  facility operators and ice technicians. 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus a one (1) year certificate in a related field such as  mechanical, facilities management, building systems or electronics. 
  • Fourth Class Power Engineer with Valid NS Department of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration  License.  
  • Demonstrated experience in team leadership. 
  • Five (5) years’ relevant technical experience in ice plant operations. 
  • Experience in ammonia refrigeration systems; Experience operating automated or  computerized control systems. 
  • Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures, Safe Work Practices, and other  maintenance-related documentation. 
  • Arena Operator Level 1 or willingness to obtain. 
  • Experience in building maintenance, heating, ventilations or air conditioning (HVAC) is  considered an asset. 
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, customer service-oriented culture, and able to work  cooperatively with others.  
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule around the operational hours of a Sports Event Facility,  including evenings and weekends. 
  • Clean Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. 
  • Understanding of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging in a customer focused environment

Annual salary: $67,684 – $84,604
